What does “FDA Cleared” mean, and why is that important?

When a personal lubricant is “FDA Cleared,” it means the US Food and Drug Administration has determined that it is safe and effective for its intended use and has been cleared for sale after extensive testing according to FDA guidelines. With this status it is considered a medical device, which means it is deemed safe for internal vaginal use. Not all lubricant or vaginal moisturizer products on the market are FDA cleared.

What if some of this lubricant gets in my mouth?

There is oil in this water-based lubricant. Shouldn’t oil in a lubricant be avoided?

The oil you want to avoid in a lubricant is silicone that can damage condoms and other materials. Silicones are also occlusive in nature meaning on skin they can trap oil, dirt and dead skin cells that can lead to clogged pores and breakouts, which is problematic on sensitive skin. There are not any silicones in this product. The oils in this formula from Moringa and Sea Buckthorn are gentle and effective on sensitive skin, and together help to fortify the skin barrier.

Can the mushroom ingredient in this lubricant give me a yeast infection?

No. Tremella Fuciformis (snowcap mushroom) has been shown to be a gentle and effective hydrator on sensitive skin and does not disrupt pH balance that can potentially lead to a yeast infection. This product has been extensively tested and cleared by the FDA as a medical device for internal vaginal use. The ingredient to avoid in a lubricant is glycerin, which can feed yeast. There is no glycerin in this product.
